The user databases (located in the ofuser directory) do not contain messages. Messages are contained in the message databases under the ofmsg directory, and message attachments are located in subdirectories under the offiles directory.

A contents check instructs GroupWise® Check to analyze references to other items. For example, in the user database, GroupWise Check verifies that any messages referenced actually exist in the message databases. In the message database, GroupWise Check verifies that any attachments referenced actually exist in the attachment directories.

For libraries, a contents check verifies index synchronization between the libraries and corresponding post offices.

A contents check also makes sure that rules, distribution lists, and personal groups point to valid objects.
