Fact: Online and hybrid courses require more written communication. Fact: Students cheat We offer Turnitin workshop, Turnitin and RL will implement the module, but LCC IT balks. Faculty don't get to use the tool. We say outsource, but you continue to let non-instructional IT dictate what we can and cannot have. You say media, but don't really mean it. IT still has not produced a media server for Lane. You say media, but instructor-created is only a small part of using textbook publisher materials and OER materials. ...and when faculty use these, LCC cannot "package" or charge for these courses, thus relegating class "ownership" as moot We say intellectual property rights is an issue You consistently ignore us and fail to institute a CD policy You say "create a system" to support innovation, but then use grant money to do whatever is expedient We say John isn't an instructional designer, doesn't know Moodle, and offer to do it ourselves You keep him in the position We say John's class stinks You buy off Science and get his course approved We say use QM Marks bullet points and you say "yay" Perhaps you won't have LCC develop its "own" rubric anymore. You say to work as a team, but give us lousy team members You say work as a team, then implement DL changes without including us in on the conversation. You say the ATC is the place to go, but clearly it is not working well. It is not opened or staffed for the hours you announced. We know who you want to remedy this? FWM ATC decides to rely on student helpers. Who will train those students? You say develop "modules" for faculty professional development, but fail to say who will do this. We already know the answer to this question. You continue to press us for OER work, although we have given you our requirements (intellectual property rights and CD funds) to move forward. At this meeting, you attempt to "buy us off" You buy off faculty, from Dental Hygiene, to SIF, to Science. Now you are doing that to us. FWM help faculty with technology in their classes. You are clearly changing our job description to focus on online classes only. This is not what I want to do as FWM. You are doing these things without clearly and proactively consulting with us. The facilitator future of education that you are pursuing is at complete odds with the type of education I have and will continue to dedicate my life to. You assume that your "yes managers" are telling the truth of what is happening in the trenches. You have firmly dug in on the Speech course issue. If normal procedures were followed (not to mention hybrid guidelines), then the "class offering" side of this grievance could have been avoided. There are MANY more issues at stake involving courses at Lane. Look how well the students feedback issue is going as we speak. Faculty Council and OISS at odds over evaluations. You hired the wrong CIO I don't trust you anymore I am probably doing you a favor by resigning. (It's nice to get rid of people who don't agree with you.) I'd like to consider myself a smart person, gaining wisdom with my years. I know when I'm not being listened to. I know when I am no longer effective in making a difference. I know when I'm being prevented from performing to my potential. I know I am good with students in the classroom. Actually, I'm a pretty amazing educator. By resigning FWM and teaching full time, I will do much more good for many more students, and perhaps look forward to coming to work.
