Kyle, Luckily for you, I did get your email, which had been stuck in the LCC spam filter, because I just completed my once-a-month check. It is certainly better to send Moodle messages. Forum 1 was during week 3 and Forum 4 was during week 4. It is now week 6. While I'm happy to answer your questions, that's a long time to wait and ask about it. And yes, completely missing Forum 4 is a problem. Are you not receiving the Moodle Announcements I make each week? As for your scores on Forum 1, Moodle logs show me you clicked on the How Forums Are Graded link on April 19 at 3pm. That is nearly the end of the week for Forum 1. I'm assuming you read those instructions since you clicked the link, but your posts seem to indicate otherwise. First, you missed the initial post Wednesday deadline. Second, all of your posts came on Friday and Sunday, while the directions indicate continual participation throughout the week. This prompted me to look at the Moodle logs for your overall participation. They show that you are logging into the class only once, and not more than twice (days) a week. That certainly is a problem. You didn't login at all from April 23 to May 3. Lastly, I've put your posts below and commented on each. Re: Week 1 - Determining the truth by Kyle Poirier - Friday, April 19, 2013, 3:15 PM Yes it is crazy how much people try to hide things from us, it makes sense because they are unethical and would upset a bunch of people; but its our right to know, we should have a say in what affects our cultural image. It was interesting that none of those facts were mentioned in the AIM video, I wish history would just be said how it actually was. Unbiased *****This is one of those posts where it is clear that every statement the student makes can be made without having read/watched/analyzed any of the provided materials. What "people"? Hiding "what" exactly? None of "what facts" mentioned in the AIM video? Re: Week 1 - Determining the truth by Kyle Poirier - Friday, April 19, 2013, 3:20 PM I feel like he definitly was a puppet too. And i think you make a great point by saying that if Diem was so loved why did people want to overthrow him? because leaders that are truly great and loved are the ones that the people are behind, and least the majority of them. *****This reply simply parrots what was said before by another student, without adding any analysis or new evidence to the discussion. (beside the spelling/grammar errors) Re: Week 1 - Determining the truth by Kyle Poirier - Sunday, April 21, 2013, 6:25 PM I agree with this. They are interprentations of what happened and depending on who's doing the interpreting can change the stories quite a bit. And by getting the different perspectives and hearing every side of the story is the greatest way to get closes to the fact. And I believe history is great for learing about people places and things all over the world because it gives you insight into what they actually think and the way they look at the world *****Again, besides the spelling errors, any student could say these same generic things. There is no possible way that you've proved you watched the AIM/PBS videos and/or read the textbook. Re: Week 1 - Determining the truth by Kyle Poirier - Sunday, April 21, 2013, 6:30 PM Yea in the past I usually have just taken history for what it is and kind of treated it like absolute truth, but now after this Accuracy video clip I may not be able to do that any more. Its hard that this happens because it doesnt give you that much options on who to trust. Because anyones capable of skewing the truth. I think overall I would trust the veterans too. *****I'm glad you are coming to a personal realization here (therefore the 1 point for this post), but no historical facts to support your claims. How about mentioning a specific veteran from a story in the Appy book? That would support why you mention trusting the veterans. Re: Week 1 - Determining the truth by Kyle Poirier - Sunday, April 21, 2013, 6:37 PM I agree. Thats a great example of the changes in how history is portrayed by different people. And like you said, one really has to read as much different angles to history as possible in order to gain an understanding about what is actually true ******Another "I agree" reply, mentioned specifically in the forum instructions. And have you noticed, not a single one of these 5 posts/replies includes even a single citation of a source (2 textbooks, 2 videos, 2 more web videos) to help your analysis or prove your position? That is a problem. The small extra credit opportunity in this class is mentioned in the syllabus. Hello Professor, I was wondering why I only got two points for forum 1? Partially because I don't want to do that again, and also because I thought I wrote enough times to get full credit. Also forum 2 I didn't even realize was going on, I must have looked at the wrong week because I thought we were just preparing for the test. Is there any extra credit or make up I can do? Thanks for your time, Kyle Poireir L00518627
