All the Courtesy.--

Columbus, Ohio, State Journal [Republican]

(30 May 1856)

The South boasts all the Chivalry: Witness the killing of an Irish servant at Washington by a member of Congress, and the attack on Sumner. Why not allow them all the courtesy, as claimed by Mr. Butler, of South Carolina, in his late display in the Senate? Mr. Wilson said "his colleague, Charles Sumner, had been stricken down by a murderous assault." Mr. Butler: "You are a liar!" (A call to order.) Mr. Butler again: "I call on the Senate to witness that I have always been courteous in debate!" (The claim is allowed unanimously by the Slave Aristocracy and their humble tools, the Doughfaces.)
