Ohio Taking Her Position.Columbus, Ohio, State Journal [Republican](3 April 1857)
We call the especial attention of our readers
to the Report and Resolutions of the Committee
of the Legislature in regard to the judicial
outrage known as the opinion of the U. S.
Supreme Court upon the Dred Scott case. We
understand the report expresses the unanimous
judgment of the Republicans of both the
Senate and House Committees, and we hope it will
be sustained with the same unanimity by
the Legislature. This is no time for mincing
matters. The continued aggressions of the
Federal Government in behalf of Negro Slavery
must be met by the States in which the
principles of Liberty yet survive. Ohio took the
lead in 1855 in opposition to the Kansas
Nebraska act, and it is very proper that she should
again lead the column of Freedom in opposition
to the doctrines recently promulgated by a
Federal Slaveholding Court.
