The Dred Scott Decision.Baltimore, Maryland, Sun [American](10 March 1857)
We give this
morning, on our first page, the opinion of Judge
Taney, and an abstract of the opinions of Judges
Catron and Nelson in the Missouri slave case of
Dred Scott, by which the United States Supreme
Court decides the unconstitutionality of the Missouri
compromise act, and rules that a colored
man cannot be a citizen of the United States.--
These opinions will be read with interest, and
therefore, in view of the importance of the questions
decided and thus set at rest, we willingly
give up so much space to their insertion. The
opinions of Judges McLean and Curtis, taking a
view which is directly the opposite of these
opinions, we have not yet seen.
