ADA Web Accessibility Workshop

Presenters – Lori Brenden/David Peaslee

Session participants will receive information about ADA accessibility for

the web. We will view first hand how a screen reader reads web pages and why it is so important for our visitors that our web pages are easy to navigate. We will discuss how you can make your pages more accessible and what tools you can use to check your pages. If you are not able to attend this workshop, you can contact David Peaslee in Disability Services with specific questions.

LCC Homepage Redesign Workshop

This session is for participants who want to learn more about Lane's redesigned website debuting in early September. Session participants will learn more about the redesign and the changes in navigation for the site. We will be navigating through the site so that all staff are prepared to use the site for their everyday tasks. Your LCC Web Site - Using Your New Web Account

Session participants will be introduced to an exciting and very easy to use website, custom made for instructors who want a web presence quickly, who don't want to spend a lot of time learning too many technical details, and who want the freedom to develop their site at their own pace. If you can surf the web, click on form buttons, and have your syllabus, handouts, or other materials in electronic form (Microsoft Word), but still do not have your own web site at LCC, this session is for you.

Mozilla is a free web browser which is not only faster than Netscape or Internet Explorer, but also has a built-in in web page editor. Simply surf to the page you want to change, click EDIT PAGE, make your changes, and PUBLISH the new version. All can be done with just a few mouse clicks. Introduction to the Smart Classroom

Designed for those who have never used or barely used this equipment * see how totally un-intimidating this technology is. A quick overview of DVD and VCR videos shown on the big screen, accessing the web in the classroom, using Powerpoint presentations, utilizing an overhead that doesn't need transparencies, and wowing everyone with a free floating mouse!

Designing Online Curriculum

Presenter - Ken Zimmerman

This workshop will explore the strengths and weaknesses of online learning environments, and how best to design classes for the most effective learning. This workshop will be about curriculum and learning first, and technology second. Participants will look at their specific curricular goals and how best to meet them using the available online techniques and resources.

Creating Web Pages - Dreamweaver Basics

Session participants will be introduced to the basics of using Dreamweaver to edit/create webpages and the basics of editing pages created from a Dreamweaver template. We will review the Dreamweaver workspace, toolbars, how to define a site and the basics of editing a web page. If you already have a web page at LCC and/or are responsible for updating your department/program/committee pages and want to learn how to make the best use of Dreamweaver to create and update your pages, this is the workshop for you. If you are not able to attend this workshop, you can also receive individual help from Roka Walsh in the ITC.

Introduction to Online Testing with TestPilot

This is the first step toward computerized testing. Students love this technology and it frees instructors from proctoring forever! Anyone can format a new or old Word document test and transfer it into Testpilot. Session participants will learn how to fine tune installed tests, see some of the statistical analysis capabilities, and witness how effortlessly test results transfer to Excel gradebooks. After this session take the more advanced Testpilot offerings by Jim Salt or Joe Escobar and leave Inservice with a powerful and fun new tool.

phpBB - Class Discussion, Bulletin Board, and Email Listserv - ALL IN ONE

Presenter – Julia Munkvold

Create the ability to have students have discussions or do group work online with this highly adaptable software - phpBB. Site license at Lane already current so no cost to your department. No coding or html knowledge required. This program also creates listservs for students to receive email announcements, or communicate with each other.

Online Teaching and Paper Grading with Moodle

Would you like to teach an online course or add an online component to a traditional course? How about simply reading, commenting on and grading papers online? Then try Moodle! In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create a course, post syllabi, handouts and assignments, make announcements to students, use the course calendar, grade and provide written feedback on student work, and manage interactive message boards. Moodle is a versatile yet use-friendly open-source alternative to WebCT. If you can use a web browser, you can use Moodle!

Learn how and practice writing a variety of types of computer-graded questions (multiple choice, short answer and matching). Putting them in cyberspace in a WebCT environment can direct and assess student learning and serve as either preparation for or follow-up to the traditional classroom experience. Mastering this skill can be a first step if you'd like to teach a fully online class.
