Hello inservice presenters,
First, let me extend my sincere appreciation to each of you for
volunteering your time to present on technology innovation topics at
Lane's Fall Inservice. The response was overwhelming as we have
nearly 24 presentations to make over the several days. I have
already received emails from staff who, although not presenting
themselves, have expressed excitement at the offerings and promises to
be filling our seats!!!
Let me also let you know that I am personally committed to making this
a terrific inservice and to help each of you in any and every way
possible. I'll make the schedule, get you the proper classrooms,
have printed all of the materials you want to use, etc. As
"innovation" is the theme at this Fall's inservice, we have an
outstanding opportunity to show our LCC colleagues the benefits of
using this technology and incorporating it into their work. Let's
take full advantage of it.
We have one main task before us. The printing deadline for
inservice schedules is quickly approaching, so that is my first
concern. As earlier stated in emails, the days for presentations
are:
*Friday, September 17th [focus on innovation]
*Monday, September 20th [focus on class prep]
*Friday, September 24th [focus on class prep]
Not all of you have completed the online form, located at:
http://teach.lanecc.edu/inservice
so I am not certain which days and times are best for you. Some
of you may have to contact your department chairs since department
meetings are scheduled for that first Friday, September 17th. Of
course, we wouldn't want your presentation to conflict with that
meeting. As it stands right now, I am open to YOUR CHOOSING which
day(s) and time(s) works best for you. Presentations should
probably run approximately an hour (allowing for questions and
participation) and occur between 9am and 4pm. Let's plan to start
them all at the top of the hour.
We have at least 4 computer classrooms reserved for those 3 inservice
days. This means that you should plan your sessions to be "hands
on", as each participant will have their own networked computer.
(At present, all classrooms are Windows/PC, but we can certainly
schedule a Mac classroom.) In addition, you need to consider what
software you will need. As I see it, presentations seem to break
down to 2 groups, those who simply need an internet connection and
those who will be using special software (Dreamweaver/Photoshop/etc.).
Finally, (for now) could you please generate a session description
paragraph of less than 100 words to be included on the inservice
printed materials. (see my example below)

2. How many times are you willing to give your presentation (once, twice, each day?)
3. What day(s) and time(s) would work best for you?
4. Classroom preference (PC lab, Mac lab, smart classroom, specific room #)
5. Special software required or just an internet connection?
6. Session Description Paragraph (less than 100 words)

6. Description
Session participants will be introduced to an exciting and very easy to
use website, custom made for instructors who want a web presence
quickly, who don’t want to spend a lot of time learning too many
technical details, and who want the freedom to develop their site at
their own pace. If you can surf the web, click on form buttons,
and have your syllabus, handouts, or other materials in electronic form
(Microsoft Word), but still do not have your own web site at LCC, this
session is for you.
