Attendance	Attendance will be taken, and unexcused absences will be considered in determining your final grade. Clear absences with your instructor, prior to the fact if possible. Since the two classes are exactly the same (morning and afternoon), I allow students to attend either class. If you oversleep, come to the later class. The ONLY times this does not apply is on exam days. Students failing to take exams during the hour of their official registered class will be penalized 10%, one letter grade.
Instructor Contact	I am accessible via phone, fax, email, voicemail, or in person at office hours or scheduled appointments. Although not required for the course, you will find that having access to the internet and email will be extremely helpful. I check my email multiple times each day, weekends included, and am therefore easy to contact. I encourage you to utilize this technology. My job is to help make this a successful experience for you. You will find that I enjoy helping my students. I expect that all students will join the class listserv (you must have an email address to do this) by the end of the first week of class. The listserv is on the class web site. Here are the steps:   1. Click the Class Newsgroup, Listserv, and Chat link on the homepage 5. Click More (at the top) 6. Click Mailing Lists 2. Course Objectives	Develop: knowledge and understanding of people and events that shaped this nation's history from 1900 - 1975. the ability to analyze and interpret historical data from multiple sources and develop multiple perspectives. meaningful connections and insights into the links between "history" and contemporary times.
Procedures	Course format is a blend of lecture and discussion, prompted by student questions, outside readings, primary source document analysis and video clips. It is imperative to GPA and self esteem that students keep to the class schedule of assigned readings, testing, and exams.
Evaluation	Computer Quizzes consisting of 10 multiple choice questions are available on the internet. They must be taken by 3pm on the day scheduled. There will be one for each chapter in the book. Taking them on time will constitute 10% of your grade in this class. Attendance and Participation in class discussions/activities will constitute 10% of your final grade. The Primary Source Document Response is a typed, 1-2 page homework assignment that students will complete during the course of the term. Students will choose one of four topics to complete. Two will occur before the midterm exam, being due that day, and two will occur before the final exam, due on the last day of class in the 10th week. Two non-comprehensive Exams will be given, each constituting 35% of your grade. You may choose to take either the objective or essay exam. Objective exams consist of multiple choice questions, true/false, matching, maps, etc. Essay exams consist of answering 2-3 short essay questions (2-3 handwritten pages each, 4 to 9 pages total). Students choosing to take the essay exam must contact the instructor at least one week prior to the exam date. The final examination will be given in class according to the dates and times published in the Spring Term's schedule of classes. 8:30a class - Tuesday, June 6, 8-9:50am, MA130 1:00p class - Thursday, June 8, 12-1:50pm, CEN401 There are no makeup exams. There is no extra credit. Grades of incomplete will not be given. Attendance will be considered in determining your final grade. Social Science Computer Lab	Lab location and hours are: Main Campus CEN 423 - Mon-Thur 10am-8pm, Fri 10am-5pm. Computers are available for word processing, computerized testing, and surfing the internet. The fee is $1/hour. Enrollment in this class comes with 1-2 hours of computer time in ANY and ALL of the LCC computer labs.
