Hello Students,

My name is Joe Escobar and I will be teaching two sections of HST202 United States History, Winter Term at Lane Community College.  The courses are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am and 1pm.  If they are currently full, you should continue to check MyLane often, as many students add and drop courses up to the very beginning of the term. I've been a history instructor since 1989, and you will find that I enjoy teaching and working with students.  I’m using this web page to give prospective students some information relevant to this particular course. 

First, my HST202 4 credit courses offered Winter Term are taught in a hybrid format.  Students and instructor meet for 3 credit hours each week, and 1 credit hour is spent completing class assignments online.  If you are unwilling to use an internet-connected device (computer/tablet/smartphone) on a regular, almost daily basis to complete this classwork, please take another traditional section of this course instead of my hybrid section.  A significant portion of your grade in this course will depend on your ability to read, watch, and work with internet materials, complete weekly online quizzes, and discuss historical subjects with your classmates in online forums.  The online commitment is extensive compared to the other traditional sections of U.S. History taught at LCC.

We will use Moodle extensively to accomplish our work for this course.  Once registered, you will be able to login to the site with your L# and MyLane passphrase. The site URL is:

Second, once logged in, I hope you take the time to read and/or print a copy of the course syllabus before class, so you can come prepared with questions.

Third, think about this.  You are spending over $400 to take this course, and most of you know nothing about this "Instructor Joe Escobar" listed in the schedule of classes.  If you fail to drop the course before the end of the first week of class, you will not receive a tuition refund.  To help you decide if you are spending your money wisely, I have posted my instructor and course evaluations completed by my former students over the last several years.  All comments, positive and negative, have been included.  I would strongly advise that you take a look and see if you like what you discover about this class and your potential instructor.  That URL is:
