I liked that the instructor made the subject and lecture interesting and fun to learn.
Escobar was a fantastic teacher. He was very enthusiastic about the class and is very informed about the subject. He knows what he is talking about and gives the information needed in an easy to understand way.
history is my favorite subject of study and joe made the class fun and interesting with his teaching technique and enthusiasm.
Escobar yet again has proven to be a very capable teacher and has the great ability to make a subject like history shine as if it was brand new.
I enjoyed that the great majority of the homework was online.
Various ways of presenting materials and opportunities to learn. Made the class very reasonable to succeed. All quizzes, forum posts, and online polls gave students multiple opportunities to earn points to earn a successful grade. Instructor was very fair with exams, and altering percentages of grades of exams.
I enjoyed learning about the Civil War and the Reconstruction era. That helped a lot to understand these two broad topics.
enthusiasum from teacher
I enjoyed the video integration and the hands on appeal of clicker day and when tangible items were available. I also really liked the maps and filling them out and having a visual reference as to where the battles and prominent areas were.
The biggest aspect that I enjoyed about the class was the teacher's enthusiasm and knowledge that he showed during the term.
I really enjoyed Joe as a teacher. Even though i've always enjoyed history in school, its had a tendency to be kind of boring. Joe managed to keep my attention and keep me interested. I will absolutely take another class taught by Joe.
I enjoyed the lecture. Joe was very enthusiastic and made the information interesting and enjoyable.
I really liked Joe's lectures. He keeps them interesting and I don't feel bored while I'm in class.
Joe explained material in a manner that was easy to relate to and would provide examples for further clarification.
I enjoyed Mr. Escobar's inclusion of his own personal photos when it pertained to the class material. It class didn't feel so much like a "traditional" mundane lecture but more like a discussion that was both casual and educational.

Very informative class. Packed with learning and information each day of class. I liked the use of pictures in class and going in depth to truly understand the meaning of what is happening in the historical images.
Organized, outlined perfectly! The email reminders are just another way that Joe Escobar encourages his students to succeed.
I learned more than I had anticipated.
It was mostly interesting (I'm not a documentary-watching person), and I'm glad I took this class with you as our instructor. I liked that you brought in props and that you took the time to make informational videos for us. You also cared about your class, making it easy to contact you and sending us reminders.

It was fun and he kept it moving and the learning prosses interesting with video breaks and clicker quizes to avoid us getting burnt out.
I really liked the way the lectures were set up. I liked that there were videos mixed in with the power points.
The pace of the classes and how they moved, moving quickly but not too fast, weaving nicely between videos, audio clips, pictures, and lecture itself. Furthermore, the communication was great. Constant reminders from the professor about looming dates and deadlines.

I really like History and the fact that the class was mainly lectured base. I didn't like the reading and I almost feel like it's unnecessary because we are taught so much in the lectures.
Class time was great and I like how into the subject Joe was, showed he actually liked teaching.
it was very clear and nothing was sugar coated it was the raw facts and i enjoyed how you taught.
I enjoyed many things about this class, but I really liked that you tried to keep personal opinions out of the lectures and instead gave us the facts and the opinions of the time period. I also really liked that you seemed to care for you students rather than just brushing them off as an unfortunate part of your job.
The materials that we learn are too complex to remember them all.

I believe the class is great just the way it is!
I was pleased with everything.
in class discussion on the forums to help students better understand the subject and come up with a better argument.
Less points awarded for attendance. Attendance IS important, but the penalty is too severe.
I feel like instead of just lecture the whole class, something else needs to be Incorporated in the in class part.
Studying and understanding maps, online quizzes, and the study list is essential for the exams. An optional review session for the midterm (as it was given for the final) would be beneficial.
The class does not need to be improved. Everything on the Moodle site is accurate.
i think this class was great, no improvement
Sadly waste a few more trees and don't copy the maps front to back. I myself like to write in different colors depending on the even or location. When it came to using the other side of the map i ended up getting another one because i could see through the paper. Offer a mid-term practice exam like you do the final. I have text anxiety not knowing what the test would look like, made it hard for me to study in the long run, even though it did look like the chapter tests. When it comes to chapter tests the last two tests were harder to complete because we only covered about 2/3 of the chapter. Therefor the test was a bit misleading.
In my opinion, I think the class could be improved if the teacher allowed more time to write down notes. I found it difficult to write down slides and be engaged in the lecture at the same time.
More interaction times in class. One of my favorite days was when we got the little contollers to make votes during class. That day was really fun, more of those types of activities would be fun.

The half hour wait period after making forum posts can make it difficult to have a discussion with someone when you have to wait at least an hour for the response post to be visible.
More historical reenactments from Joe.
I really enjoy group discussions and I think it is also an effective way to really test my knowledge of what I might've learned in the class thus far.

I think that you state your opinion too blatantly. I think you need to allow the students to form their opinions on their own without your input. It's obvious about how you feel about things on a political standpoint which I feel is kind of inappropriate. The forums were also hard to answer at times and your grading for them didn't make very much sense. Every time I felt like I did the best I could I would fail it. At times I didn't know what to say as a response to your forum posts which made it hard for me to pass it.
Found out that I don't like hybrid classes, but good for students with jobs.
really the forums could be shortened.
I can't really think of any ways that this class could be improved... Maybe having about 5 minutes at the beginning of class for any questions about the reading.
Make a comparison of different historical events.
