What did you like about the class?

I liked Mr. Escobar's teaching style, his enthusiasm, and I feel like I walked away with a greater knowledge.
Video presentations were entertaining and helpful in learning.
The use of time in the class was very impressive and your ability to field constant questions showed a great knowledge of the subject.
The online aspect of the class. It gave more in class time for the material and I was able to access class materials at my own discretion.
I liked how there were chapter tests each week, because it forced me to keep up on my reading and look back through the reading to make sure I have all the important information.

Everything, The teacher has made the class interesting through a perfect balance of video and teacher intrucitons.
If you are willing to put in the work, you will learn a great deal in Professor Escobar's classroom. He teaches efficiently, blending technology, and lectures, with a passion for history. To succeed in this class it is imperative to stay active with your studies.
I really enjoyed how well organized this class was.
The course work was easy to follow online. I always knew what was due and when. The classroom experience was well presented using modern tools. The exam reviews were extremely helpful in preparing for the tests.
He is the most organized professor that i've ever had. He never wastes our time. He is also very neutral when dealing with political issues.

I really enjoyed all of the little video clips we watched in class.
I enjoyed how he used class time, it was not wasted and the video clips he should were always good.
I liked the way the classroom time was used with the slide shows covering the material in the book.

I loved the forum so much. It was definitely great opportunity to talk with classmate.
One of my favorite subjects, and good structure. Enjoyed the forums and learned from the material. I also appreciate the instructor Escobar's animated lecture style, never boring and he keeps the classes attention.

Joe was enthusiastic about the subject and was personable while still maintaining a fairly neutral position on what he taught.
I really enjoyed everything about this class. I did periodically have some tech problems, but I was always able to either solve them on my own after a bit of sleuthing or to message Mr. Escobar and get things figured out. He will work very hard to make himself available to any student who needs to speak with him, and doesn't make you feel like an idiot for asking questions. Mr. Escobar's enthusiasm for the material makes it really easy to get into what you're learning.
besides the subject matter, the instructors knowledge of the material was top of the line. The integration of videos and expert interviews was a critical factor in keeping my interest during the early morning hours. The instructors presentations were very profound and provoked thought during the lecture portion of the course. The online forum discussions were also put together wonderfully and provided me with extra material to formulate an educated opinion.
The power points, and the video clips, pictures, and loved the cartoons. It was a great class

It was engaging and covered a wide range of subjects in the 19th century America. The instructor used technological resources effectively.
I loved the class. The professor clearly loved the subject matter and was extremely knowledgeable. The forum aspect was interesting to me as it lent itself to varying and productive discussions. I would recommend the class to anyone who asked.

I liked how Joe presented the material. He made the information interesting and relatable.
Somebody complained about him showing too many "family vacation photos" but I highly disagree. His photos showed that he is passionate about what he teaches and it gives his students the reassurance that he actually knows what he's talking about because he's not only studied the history of western civilization but he's in fact been to the historical landmarks . The pictures were also helpful in the sense that we got to see what some historical landmarks look like now after all these years.
Different approaches of media and documents to the subjects studied.
I liked the forum and the quizzes online. I enjoy being able to do some of the class online but still have time to ask questions in class.
I think the online forums are an excellent tool to help students process new information.
I knew when homework was due. It was straight forward and clear.

Opening new forums on a friday night rather than a saturday

Slower Lectures
Provide film of the class for people who might have missed more than a few days do to unspecified reasons.
He has obviously learned how to maximize every last minute of class time, and pack it full of as much information as possible. He used an electronic button poll-system with the class this term, asking us questions relavent to the subject, and showing us the data. It was effective and interactive. If he incorporated one or two interactive exercises like this each term, it would be beneficial to the students. Especially the students that need a little bit of a nudge, and even some motivation. Overall, the class is enjoyable and productive. I will continue to take his courses.
More online activity
Actually this was one of my favorite classes so far. It was well prepared and thought out.
Instructor spent too much time boring the class with his family vacation photos to various history sites.
Maybe a little more student interaction instead of just the instructor taking the entire class period,
I think it is good the way it is. Maybe making the forum posts different because it was hard for me to stay on top of them when I had so much time to do them.
I enjoyed the class overall, and the material covered. The only thing that could be improved is the opportunity to ask questions if there is something that is hard for you(student) to grasp.
Add a little more time for discussions about forums topics, not to give away answers but to help students come up with different angles on a topic.
I learned a lot of aspects of American which is good and bad, but it will be great knowledge to live in the county

By myself putting more effort into studying. The teacher does great I personally need to make it possible to a lot more time to studying.
More interaction in class
Difficult to take notes quickly enough. However, Joe did have a lot of information that needed to be covered in a short period of class time.
The only thing I would change would be having a weekly list telling us what the key points for the chapter will be, in regards to the instructor's test writing and perspective. The book, while good, tends to make it feel like EVERYTHING is a matter or LIFE AND DEATH OHMIGOSHHIGHLIGHTTHISLINERIGHTNOW!! ... It can be a little overwhelming trying to figure out which pieces are vital to commit to memory. Even so, the weekly computer quizzes are a huge help, and make it much easier to study for the mid-term and final exams. I just wish I knew how to study for the weekly quizzes.
improved? that's a tough one..... maybe fresh coffee would be a nice addition to the class/lecture environment. Other than that, this class was well worth the time and effort put into it by a very knowledgeable professor.

I have no suggestions. It was everything I could ask for in a college level history course.
I honestly cannot think of improvement for this class. I felt it was a good course with good time management in class.
We should use the clickers more because I felt that they were very helpful. I didn't learn very well in this class because lecture-style classes don't help me very much.
tests are hard, don't care much for the forums, they make me think too much.
I would say to give a little more time on the reading. Not everyone read at the same pace, and even if the can read at a quick pace, it doesn't mean that they are comprehending it.

More extra credit opportunities.
Hand-out study guide in the beginning of the term, spend more time defining key concepts. Make quizzes more relevant to finals. Allow for short answers on tests.
With the online quizzes, instead of simply being given the correct answer to a missed question, it would be more helpful to be given a page number in the textbook where the correct answer can be found.
I started bringing my book to class so I could go through the lecture with him. It helped me make the connection from the powerpoint and video. though he doesn't require you to bring your book it helps to have it there to refer to while class is in session
