Q# 13. What did you like about this class?

- I like the fact that the teacher went through chapter after chapter to make sure we understood the material

- The sense of humor of teacher/instructor

- I like the fact that Escobar questioned some of the material in the book and provided opposing views

- I like Escobar's firm approach to teaching

- I like all of the stuff online

- Even though I didn't do to great on the tests, I still enjoyed it

- I liek how knowledgable Joe is in the subjects he teaches.  It shows he has serious passion for history and makes it easier for me to learn

- I enjoyed this class overall. Joe was unbiased when it came to the issues of history and related them well today.  If I could, I would take more of his classes!!

- I liked the numerous tie-ins from history to today.  I liked the assignments designed to get me to figure out the viewpoints of authors as well as those that helped me to learn how to analyze what I was reading.  I especially liked the fair treatment of modern politics as well as historical religion.

- I liked the subject and Mr. Escobar

- I enjoyed learning about information I didn't know

- He brought history alive and to the present time.  Great use of technology.  Very eye opening.  Challenged students to find alternative views

- I like the mix of online and in class material

- The enthusiasm the instructor had for the subject

- I personally don't do well just learning from being lectured, and taking notes.  I think there is a large amount of good info presented though

- Alot learned in a short amount of time

- I was unsure about the hybrid nature of the class but it worked out well.  I liked that there wasn't much homework

- Fair, complete, clear, great class

- Too much focus on unimportant stuff such as point of view and motives

- Teacher was very knowledgeable

- I mainly liked the actual class time, because he goes over material that is hard and extremely time consuming

Q# 14. How could this class be improved? Add any comments about the class and/or the instructor that you feel
might be helpful or useful.

- He needs to slow down a bit on the slides

- Nothing that I would change.  Joe is a great teacher

- The Taking Sides forum I have to disagree with.  It quickly fills up with 2 or 3 valid posts, then 80+ repeats of the same thing, over and over.  It's hard to come up with anything but meaningless talk if you don't post on the first day.

- It was to cramed and alot of information was introduces all at once maybe space it out

- More group activities

- None - I like the class exactly as it is

- Maybe different txt, not impressed with bias of authors and was frustrating the different things I've never seen or heard of before for things I know which were proper terms

- I wish we could have spent more time on the Revolution. I think we could have skipped the first chapter.  I also think there should have been more tests that covered less material. That way I could have figured out much sooner in the quarter what kinds of tests were given and not felt like I had to cram to study.

- More group work for students but not online group work. Lecture notes that can be printed before class and then filled in

- It is a lot of work and very time consuming.  But very informative.

- Break down vocabulary more

- A link w/ all deadlines posted?

- More time to be able to copy notes from slides adn possibly ore specific as to the exam reviews

- The only thing I would like, but I know will never happen, is if Escobar could put the videos he plays in class up on the Moodle website, for review or if you just missed that day and you wanted to know what happened.

- Maybe not stray off using current day examples.  Fount it distracting from the history and didn't gain anything from it.  Otherwise it's good

- There are no hands on learning experiences in this class we simply take notes and read then are expected to know it all. Very hard test

- Tests very, very difficult

- Remove online discussion

- Assignments were not explained clearly enough.  HST202/203 only encompass 1 century... HST201 encompasses thousands of years of US History.  HST201 is much more difficult than HST202/HST203.  Thsi should have been explained more clearly in class description.

- No wikis! The online work needs more of an in-class feel.  Needs to be broken up better.

- I liked his enthusiasm for the topics

- I liked how he always made the subject relate to today

- I like the enthusiasm Joe brings to learning history

- Offic hours - Joe was always available for me to talk about history.

- This class was very informative and I recommend it to everyone, the teacher is an awesome guy and does not put me to sleep.  I enjoyed every day in this class.

- I really enjoyed Escobar and his teaching methods

- Alot of material to grasp but is taught well and patterns are shown

- Instructional and enjoyable, teacher was personable, approachable and knowledgeable

- It is clear that Mr. Escobar not only is incredibly knowledgeable but that he loves history! I am very grateful to have had him as an instructor

- The enthusiasm and personal knowledge of the instructor

- Excellent use of art (i.e. paintings, cartoons, etc.)  Good at examining how issues apply to today.  Wonderfully thought provolking withou being offensive.

- I liked how he seemed especially interested in the material

- I found the lectures and notes to be very helpful in clarifying issues in the text.  I really appreciated the quizzes being before we covered the materials.  It helped in being more actively ready for class.

- It was entertaining in what was taught but very educational

- It was very a organized class, not time was wasted

- Have what is lectured and what was tested more closely related.  Test relied way to much on textbook

- Less reading

- The only thing I didn't like was Moodle.  I don't have internet and live way out of town, but I made it work.

- Take away the wiki pages.  Otherwise, everything was great!

- It's great!

- More organization of group projects

- None needed

- Less boring long winded historians

- Less reading, more teaching. Lectures are always better than books.

- Maybe a little more variety in activity
