Required Textbook Alan Brinkley, The Unfinished Nation 2nd edition - Chapters 20-28
Additional readings will be assigned.

Attendance Attendance will be taken, and unexcused absences will be considered in determining your final grade. Clear absences prior to the fact, if possible, with your instructor.

Course Objectives
Develop:

knowledge and understanding of people and events that shaped this nation's history from 1900 - 1945.
the ablity to analyze and interpret historical data from multiple sources and develop multiple perspectives.
meaningful connections and insights into the links between "history"and contemporary times.

Procedures Course format is a blend of lecture and discussion, prompted by student questions, outside readings, primary source document analysis and video clips. It is imperitive to GPA and self esteem that students keep to the class schedule of readings, assignments, and testing.

Evaluation Computer Tests consisting of 20 multiple choice questions are given in the Social Science Computer Lab (CEN 423A), the Cottage Grove Center, and on the internet. They must be taken before class on the day scheduled. There will be one for each chapter in the book.

Two midterm exams will be given in class. A non-comprehensive final examination will not be given according to the published final exam schedule in the class schedule. It will be given during Finals Week in the Written Testing Lab, CEN423C. Finals Week hours are Monday-Wednesday 10am-8pm, Thursday 10am-5pm, closed on Friday.

There are no makeup exams. There is no extra credit.
Attendance will be considered in determining your final grade.

Summary:
Midterm Exams = 33% each Final Exam = 34%
A= 90% B=80% C=70% D=60% F=<59%

Computers are available for word processing, computerized testing, and surfing the internet. Lab Aides are available to assist you. Even though the computer quizzes are for practice only, there is no talking or study materials allowed while in the testing room. The lab is first come, first served, and your convenience may be sacrificed when the lab is busy. You might try calling the Main Campus CEN 423 Lab first at 747-4501 ext. 2172.
