Required Textbook Faragher, Out of Many - Chapters 11-20
IMPORTANT - This textbook is brand new this year. It comes in a very large, shrink-wrapped bundle for around $36 and it is good for all HST201, 202 and 203 classes at LCC. You will definitely need the other bundled items for my class. If you decide to buy a used textbook for $28, you will not get all of the appropriate materials you will need. These extras can be purchased from the publisher for around $54, so the new $36 bundle price is a MUCH better deal.
Additional readings will be assigned.
Attendance Attendance will be taken, and unexcused absences will be considered in determining your final grade. Clear absences with your instructor, prior to the fact if possible.
Instructor Contact

I am accessible via phone, fax, email, voicemail, or in person at office hours or scheduled appointments. Although not required for the course, you will find that having access to the internet and email will be extremely helpful, since I check my email multiple times each day, weekends included. I encourage you to utilize this technology. My job is to help make this a successful experience for you. You will find that I enjoy helping my students.

I expect that all students will join the class listserv (you must have an email address to do this) which is on the instructor web page at: http://slimac.lanecc.edu/users/escobarj

Course Objectives

  • the ability to analyze and interpret historical data from multiple sources and develop multiple perspectives.
  • meaningful connections and insights into the links between "history" and contemporary times.
Procedures Course format is a blend of lecture and discussion, prompted by student questions, outside readings, primary source document analysis and video clips. It is imperative to GPA and self esteem that students keep to the class schedule of assigned readings, testing, and exams.
