Being "handled" Being "handled" is having a short term obligation (serving on the original hybrid/online guidelines committee) turned into a long term commitment because a manager made a mistake in implementing those guidelines (Speech) and then being supported by the administration (VP OISS) in that mistake. Rather than dealing with the problem in a forthright manner, you have chosen to avoid the real issue, getting distracted by personnel issues. I heard you were recently surprised to hear that this issue is still an active one and has not gone away. Imagine that. Being "handled" is putting a new member (Mark) on the hybrid/online committee and having him usurp the entire process. Not only has he produced nothing, he has taken what had been produced and eliminated it completely. In this failed process, a truly functioning manager with the proper point of view (Ken) has become isolated, his voice unheard, and his efforts wasted. Being "handled" is having the committee's focus drastically changed to deal with manager training and support issues, when that was not the purpose of the committee. Moreover, Meredith gave Mark the entire "answer" to the problem (hire a QM speaker for a certain sum of money) many weeks ago, only to have that email go unread and that advice go unheeded. Finally, being "handled" is having you (VP OISS) miss 70 minutes of a 90 minute meeting, then grabbing a pen to "summarize" everything you've heard and call it a success. In my eyes, you have let everything get away from you. You are not truly engaged in any of this work on a meaningful level, and it shows to those who are, or who at least are trying to be in these last weeks before June 13th. I said I would always be straight with you. I do not believe you have been straight with me. When asked a tough question, you remain silent. If we are talking on the phone, the phone on your end will go silent. It is not possible to carry on any meaningful conversations in this manner. Joe I stand by my original conclusions, made weeks ago. Managers won't substantially get any better at the QM "thing", that this committee was not tasked to change the management "culture" at Lane, and that no one will really be held accountable for the quality of classes at LCC. In reality, the resurrection of this committee is only in response to the Speech situation; in short, a manager who blew it, and now we all have to pay the price in time and frustration.
