Job Description: Faculty Webmaster - Experimental Classroom (E.C.) Coordinator

Seeking full-time, contracted instructors interested in a .5 release assignment as a Faculty Webmaster. Main duties involve coordinating the Experimental Classroom and providing support and training for faculty on a variety of software tools, such as bulletinboards, weblogs, multimedia, websites, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

Technology Support Specialist: Recent college-level teaching experience, demonstrated experience with curriculum development utilizing instructional technology and/or online learning techniques, demonstrated technical knowledge of the hardware/software platform.

Instructor: This position will include half-time teaching duties with an instructional department, along with half-time Instructional Technology duties. Applicants must be qualified to teach in a Lane instructional department. (Typically requires a Master's degree or equivalent experience)

JOB PURPOSE:

Technology Support Specialist: To provide instructors with technical and pedagogical support for the development of Internet-based courses, the creation of instruction related materials for the World Wide Web, and other uses of instructional technologies.

Instructor: To provide a high quality of instruction to students taking LCC courses

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Technology Support Specialist:

GENERAL DUTIES

• Work as a dedicated team member with other faculty webmasters
• Serve as point of contact for faculty interesting in utilizing web technologies for their teaching, classes, and students
• Consult with faculty in person, both on and off main campus, over the phone, and via email on technical issues
• Help faculty determine which software tools they need to accomplish desired tasks
• Help faculty with pedagogy and planning of classroom activities based around available technology
• Troubleshoot and problem solve with faculty presently using technology or planning to use it
• Refer staff and instructors to appropriate Lane and off-campus instructional technology training opportunities and resources.
• Be connected with the educational technology community via listserv, industry publications, conferences, bulletinboards, online class offerings
• Attend trainings and conferences relevant to the technical needs of LCC and its faculty
• Stay informed about technical issues and instructional design specific to higher education
• Be aware of new and existing software for use by instructors, and in some cases, be competent in its use
• Train faculty on specific software tools deemed to be innovative
• Responsible for finding innovative technologies and bringing them to Lane for experimentation, and in some cases, widespread adoption by faculty
• When time and workload permit, advise on technical issues for college administrative functions/tasks

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Maintain expert level of knowledge in design trends, regulations, practices, tools, and techniques
• Provide support in above duties for both Macintosh and Windows users
• Coordinate marketing and promotion of faculty webmaster workshops, target projects and experimental classroom
• Assist and serve as instructor for LCC Faculty Fall inservice workshops
• Instruct LCC faculty in use and development of LMS/CMS system (WebCT, Moodle)
• Monitor multiple email accounts for work order requests daily

Experimental Classroom

• Maintain working order of Experimental Classroom and its laptop computers and wireless network

• Publicize/communicate with the faculty about the availability and possibilities of the E.C., using E.C. website, email, and by other means as necessary
• Train and support teachers interested in using the classroom.
• Maintain appropriate schedules of classroom reservation and use each term.
• Coordinate with IT staff to maintain the wireless network, laptops, other equipment, and software.
• As feasible, provide real-time support for instructors during their “experimental” teaching time, or arranging for this support.

Instructor:

· Teach a variety of introductory and advanced LCC courses as assigned.

· Work individually and with other Faculty to develop innovative classroom presentations and delivery techniques through the incorporation of multi-media concepts and teaching methods. Collaborate with other instructors to develop new and innovative assessment measures that help students to demonstrate proficiencies. 

· Communicate effectively and respectfully, and work productively with students and staff of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including, but not limited to: students of color, international students, older students, bilingual students, students from different cultures and with different sexual orientations, and students with disabilities and special learning needs. 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Technology Support Specialist:

· Serve as a team member with the Instructional Technological Infrastructure project of the Strategic Learning Initiative and coordinate with other advisory groups.

· Generate and disseminate information regarding the faculty Web servers and services to instructional staff members.

· Collaborate and coordinate with other Lane technical staff.

· Serve on appropriate college committees as assigned.

Instructor:

· Serve on College committees.

· Attend Division meetings and work collaboratively with peers and staff on Division and Discipline committees. 

· Collaborate with Faculty from other Divisions or Departments, Community Colleges, High Schools, and four-year Colleges/Universities to coordinate programs and contribute to the advancement of education in the State.

Required:

Instructional/Pedagogical Knowledge

· Understand, develop, and provide a supportive environment for faculty and staff

• Pedagogical as well as technical overview of the possibilities of the classroom and ability and desire to assist interested instructors in designing useful projects.
• Familiarity with instructional design concepts and practices.
• Up-to-date knowledge of instructional technologies.
• Sufficient knowledge of network and computer hardware and software to communicate effectively with technical support staff.

Communication skills:

• Communicate technical information with people unfamiliar with technical aspects of the hardware or software
• Ability to communicate about pedagogical issues with faculty from a variety of disciplines.
• Ability to cooperatively find creative implementation strategies to faculty’s pedagogical vision.

Technical skills:

• Ability to research and implement solutions to tasks utilizing manuals and internet, including listservs, bulletinboards, and other online sources.

· Use appropriate technology to accomplish job functions

· Stay current with developments in software and hardware related to the appropriate platform
