Introduction to Moodle

 

Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities.  It is completely web-based.  All you need is a web browser.  Visit and join the community of educators on the web at  http://moodle.org

Your Faculty Webmasters are here to help LCC faculty with ÒhowÓ to use Moodle, and requests for help should be either:

 

á          Emailed to online@lanecc.edu

or

á          Submitted online by clicking the Webmaster Work Order link at:

http://teach.lanecc.edu 

 

LaneÕs own Information Technology Division is responsible for the technical server issues and integration with Banner/ExpressLane.  Any faculty requests of this nature should be emailed to moodleadmin@lanecc.edu.

 

Finally, LaneÕs Student Help Desk (the SHeD) can assist students will all technical questions, including how to use Moodle.  Your students can contact the SHeD at shed@lanecc.edu.

 

 

How do I find Moodle at LCC?

http://moodle.lanecc.edu will always refresh to the current term.

ItÕs the only web address/bookmark you and your students need.

You will always login with your L# and ExpressLane PIN

 

For which courses should I use Moodle?

Moodle can be used for fully online courses, traditional courses, and even new hybrid courses.

An empty Moodle course shell is created for EVERY course in Banner and will be invisible to students, by default.  An instructor will simply need to decide whether to use it or not.

 

Software Requirements to easily EDIT your Moodle course:

Windows: Internet Explorer, Firefox (http://getfirefox.com), Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org)

Mac: Firefox, Mozilla (sorry, no Safari)

 

              Windows, Mac, Linux: ANY web browser can be used to ÒseeÓ Moodle courses.
