Where can I earn continuing education units?

There are many ways that health care workers can earn continuing education units (CEUs). These include workshops sponsored by professional organizations, home study materials, classes offered on the Internet, formal college classes, attendance at meetings and conferences, and correspondence courses.


How do I know if the credits I earn will be accepted to keep my certification up to date?

You must check with the organization or agency that grants your certification. It determines which credits are acceptable. Some providers of credits have the approval of professional organizations, but it is your responsibility to make sure your credits will be accepted.


What are some other ways I can continue to learn and update my skills after finishing a formal education program?

There are many ways for health care workers to learn on their own. Some examples include observing others in the workplace, asking questions, reading books and professional journals, studying with coworkers, talking with supervisors or mentors, watching videos and educational television, and researching topics on the Internet.
