If there is an area on the body that I want to describe in written or verbal form, what is the best way to accomplish this?

Use directional terms to describe it in reference to the closest anatomical area. For example, if describing a cut by the right eye, you would say it is superior (above) or inferior (below) to the right eye. Then describe it as to whether it is superficial or deep.


What is the value of knowing what is contained in each of the body cavities?

Each body cavity contains and protects the internal organs. If there is an injury to a body cavity, you can anticipate which organs may have been injured. This information assists the health care worker in determining what to assess and what the patient may need for treatment.
