If the WebBoard administrator allowed chat for the board, you see the Chat Settings
section in your form; otherwise, you will see the file attachments section. Enabling the chat
feature for a conference lets users have real-time interactive discussions.
Remember that WebBoard offers chat on a board-by-board basis.
If the WebBoard administrator configured the Board to use
Chat, then what you see will be basic options for Chat.
The Chat chat server is a fully featured application that can be configured
beyond the settings given here. In fact, these settings are the minimal pieces of
information Chat needs to work seamlessly with WebBoard.
If the Administrator configured this board for Chat, follow these steps to specify settings:
- To enable chat in this conference, check the “Allow chat” checkbox. If this
checkbox is unchecked (disabled), this conference will not offer chat. By
default, chat is disabled. When chat is disabled, the Chat button does not
appear in the menubar.
- If you enable chat, you must also enter a channel name. In the “Channel
name” field, type the name of the chat channel you want to use for this conference.
In choosing a channel name, remember:
- Channel names must be 20 characters or less and begin with #.
- Do not use spaces or HTML.
- Channel names are not case sensitive.
- Make the channel name unique and descriptive
enough so users will know its intended audience.
