Broadcasting

WebBoard administrators and managers can send broadcast messages to all current, active users on a board. WebBoard administrators can also send broadcast messages to all users on all boards. The broadcast feature is a handy way to let users receive important information such as announcements of special events and warnings about imminent system maintenance.

Broadcasting is available even if paging is not enabled for the board. Also, broadcast messages go to all users even if they have turned off paging in their user profiles. Broadcast messages are delivered to users the next time they send a request to WebBoard (for example, by clicking a link) after the broadcast has been sent.

Broadcast to Board

To send a broadcast message to all logged-in, active users on the current board, follow these steps:

Log in as the WebBoard administrator or board manager to the board to which you want to send a broadcast message.
On the Management Menu, click the Broadcast to Board link. The Page All Users form appears.
Type in your broadcast message, up to 500 characters (note that regular user paging allows only 150-character messages). You can use WebBoard tags. For example, type "<WB-FIRST>, please log off now” to send a personalized message asking users to log off. The page shows each user’s first name, such as “Victor, please log off now.”
Click Send to send the message to all logged-in users on that board. The users receive the message the next time they send a request to the WebBoard server.

Broadcast to All Boards

To send a broadcast message to all logged-in, active users on all boards, follow these steps:

Log in as the WebBoard administrator.
On the Management Menu, click the Broadcast to all Boards link. The Broadcast Message to All Users form appears.
Type in your broadcast message, up to 500 characters. There is a default message stating the system will go down in 10 minutes. This may be overwritten with a message of your choice.
Click Send to send the message to all logged in users. The next time each user requests something from WebBoard, he or she will receive the message in a JavaScript alert box.
