Email Notification

Once a day, for boards requiring authentication, WebBoard can notify users when there has been activity in the conferences of their choice. The email message indi-cates that there is one or more new messages in that conference; it doesn’t forward the content of the message (that’s a function of WebBoard’s mailing list feature). The Email Notifications section of this form determines much of the infor-mation in the email message WebBoard sends to subscribers of this service.

As you see, two variables, <CONFNAME> and <BOARDNAME>, are used in the From and Subject fields. In the email notification message, these variables become the WebBoard tags <WB-CONFNAME> and <WB-BOARDNAME>. You can type additional text before, after, or instead of the tags. However, we do not recom-mend removing these variables, since doing so could render your email notifications quite uninformative. The message itself is stored in notify.txt and also includes the <WB-URL> tag to provide the location of the board with the new message.

From Field

The variable and text in the From field appear on the From: line of the email message addressed to each subscriber. As you see, two variables, <CONFNAME> and <BOARDNAME>, are used in the From field. In the email notification message, these variables become the WebBoard tags <WB-CONFNAME> and <WB-BOARDNAME>. You can type additional text before, after, or instead of the tags. However, we do not recommend removing these variables, since doing so could render your email notifications quite uninformative.

The From field should appear on the Notification Form as follows:

From: "Suggestions” listmanager@yourcompany.com
[Suggestions, the conference name, is the result of the tag. The @yourcompany.com is extracted from the Server Name entry on the WebBoard Administrator’s form.]

We highly recommend you accept the default entries, but you may change the entries by typing in new text.

Subject Field

The variable and text in the Subject field appear on the Subject: line of the email message addressed to each subscriber. By default, the variable <CONFNAME> is used in the Subject fields with additional text. In the email notification message, this variable becomes the WebBoard tag <WB-CONFNAME>. Again, we do not recommend removing this variable, since doing so could render your email notifications uninformative.

The subject should appear on the Notification Form as follows:

Subject: New message in 'Suggestions'
[Suggestions, the conference name, is the result of the tag throughout this message.]

We highly recommend you accept the default entries, but you may change the entries by typing in new text.
