Adding or Editing a Board: General Settings

Name

A WebBoard name is often a short description of the board. It may be any alpha-numeric combination you prefer, but like the alias, is limited to 50 characters. This name will be seen on the welcome page of the board, and on the List Boards page.

All upgraded boards will retain their existing names. By using the edit board function, the name may be changed at any time.

In the Name field, type the descriptive name you want to assign to this board. Distinct from the board's alias, this name is the one which is on the default welcome page (intro.html ) users see when logging in, in the email welcome message (welcome.txt), and is displayed anywhere you can use WebBoard's <WB-BOARDNAME> tag. Note the following tips and conventions:

Do not use HTML or WebBoard tags in this field.
Here you can be a little more expressive, up to 50 characters and spaces are allowed. Keep this name closely related to the board's alias you just entered in the Board Alias field so that users can easily associate the two. (Example: The Library Sciences 213 Board)

Manager email address

In the Email Address field, type your name and email address or that of the manager of this board. The default welcome page (intro.html ) and email welcome message (welcome.txt) display this information and it appears anywhere you use WebBoard's <WB-BOARDMANAGER> tag. If you leave this field empty, the tag returns an empty string, which may look peculiar on HTML pages that use the tag. Note the following:

Do not use HTML, WebBoard tags, or the < > characters (which denote the beginning and end of WebBoard tags).
Remember to type the email address in the proper form (yourname@host.domain) so that your users will know how to reach you by email if they need to.
You can enter up to 100 characters and spaces in this field.

Logoff URL

In the Logoff URL field, type or paste the URL to which you want users to be sent when they click the Logoff button in WebBoard's menubar. This field is required. The logoff feature ends a user session on your board and allows you to influence where the user goes next. Using this feature, you can return users to the site which pointed them to your board, send them to another related site (possibly a marketing site from which you might have negotiated a referral fee for every visitor you send their way), or you could first send them to a page that thanks them for visiting and then provides a link to another site. Put a little effort into it, and you can make the logoff page one from which they can't return to WebBoard without logging in again (a wise idea for closed or boards). WebBoard's <WB-BOARDLOGOFF> tag uses this information.

You must have a URL in this field. Leave the default http://webboard.chatspace.com or replace it with your own. Leaving the default entry sends users to WebBoard Central's home page.

Warning!
Leaving this field empty causes WebBoard to generate an error message and not complete the board creation.

Attention messaging

Check Attention Messaging to enable Attention messages on this board. New to WebBoard 4.0, a user can post messages to other users' attention, as well as to all other users in a conference. Each user has a personal address book created for that purpose. The WebBoard 4.0 graphical interface also has special features making it easy to recognize and read messages posted to your attention. Note the following:

By default, Attention Messaging is checked for a new board. If the feature is inappropriate to your board--for example, a very large public board with occasional users--or you simply don't want to let users post messages to a specific users attention, uncheck it.
Attention messaging is probably most useful in a workgroup setting or other environment where there is a stable group of users who know each other.
You can change Attn: on the message posting form and message to another word by editing the language.ini file.
