WebBoard lets you set up multiple separate and unique boards, all powered by a
single copy of WebBoard. Each board is separate and distinct from all others on
your WebBoard server, even
though they all reside on the same system. Each board has its own WebBoard
menubar and set of conferences, topics, and messages. The appearance of the
board’s pages is based on the board’s scheme. The user data for each board is
specific and distinct to that board, segregated in WebBoard’s user database. As the
WebBoard administrator, you can create up to 255 boards on your WebBoard
server.
You can use boards for different product lines, different departments, or to
provide individual boards to your clients, no matter where they are geographically.
For example, to generate revenue you can sell separate boards to different
companies or organizations. Each company can use its own board to provide
conferences specific to its site locations, products, employees, and customers.
A university department can provide a board to each class where homework,
readings, student questions, course requirements, messages from the professor,
and so on may be the subject of individual conferences. Links can take students
to a department board or the registration office board.
Identifying Boards
With Host Master, WebBoard supports multiple domains even though you are using one IP
address. This means you can identify boards by domain name, creating URLs to brand
your boards. For example, the URLs http:// HugeBiz.com and http:// HighTechU.edu
both lead to boards on the same WebBoard site. Without Host Master, all
boards have the same domain name and are distinguished by board alias, for example,
http://WebBoardSite.com/~HugeBiz. With Host Master, you specify the board's
domain with the board server name and specify the address to use in a URL with the
board address. You can also use aliases, combining them with the board server name. The
three fields--Board Server Name, Board Alias, and Board Addresses--provide ample
flexibility for identifying your boards. When adding or editing a board, b sure to

out the Host Master settings carefully to avoid making conflicting settings for your
boards.
