QUESTION:On lab #3 how do we know which
>graphs are periodic and which
>are not? I thought that they
>all showed periodicity. I can
>see maybe the graph of mass
>not being. Am I on the right
>track?

ANSWER: Right, mass is NOT periodic, that is, it's not a repeating pattern, it's a consistent pattern.

QUESTION: where can we
>find out the color associated
>with the longest wavelength?

ANSWER : RED is the longest (visible) wavelength

QUESTION: >Lab #4- Formula for metal
>oxide
>I am stuck on #15 that deals
>with the theoretical percent
>composition for bismuth. Once
>you have the weight for
>bismuth and for oxygen what do
>you do? Or where can I look
>in the materials to figure
>this out?

ANSWER: first, find each element's "part" to get the total weight
(2 x 209) + (3 x 16)= 466

then show the part that's bismuth divided by the total

418/466 x 100 = 89.7%

>QUESTION: I am also confused on this
>whole structure of atom thing.
>#1 on the chapter objectives
>for chapter two-help?
>Also could you show me how you
>get the number of neutrons for
>the potassium-37 and 42 ion
>from the work sheet on atomic
>structure.
>
ANSWER: The number if neutrons is always the weight minus the number of protons.

So 37 - 19 = 18 neutrons

and

42 - 19 = 23 neutrons

QUESTION:>one more question about lab 2
>on #6. Is this a separate
>flow sheet or the same one?
>Do we need to do this before
>the lab?

ANSWER: You can just write an "imaginary" flow sheet about what you would try first. It doesn't have to work!

Hope this helps.
