Problem of Evil (for Theism)
1) God is omnipotent
2) God is good
3) There is evil
All three statements can not be true at the same time

Atheist argument
1) if GOd is omnipotent, he would be able to prevent evil
2) if GOd is good, he'd want to prevent evil
3) yet, evil exists

Two types of Evil: 1) Moral (evil caused by personal agents)
2) Natural (earthquakes, tornadoes, foodchain, death, disease)

Explanations (ways to solve problem w/out denying any of the three previous statements
1) Process Theology ( theist view)
GOd is not omnipotent
2) Eastern religions, christian science, Gnostitism- deny that god is good, god is morally neutral, both good and evil or beyond good and evil.
3) above groups sometimes combine
deny evil exists - it is all in your mind, evil is objective

Theodicy- attempt to solve problem of evil w/out denying one of the three statements
1) freewill theodicy- humans could have been robots, no suffering, but it would be a worse world then one w/ suffering- true freewill logically implies the power to do evil. Difficulty with Theodicy- Problem explaning natural evil
2) Spiritual development theodicy- evil is necessary for learning or character development. For courage you need danger, morality-temptation, etc. Why didn't God create ready made saints?
3) Human Ignorance ( the story of Job)
