Pacifist- violence is always wrong

Pacifism- violence is never justified in solving problems (political or personal). There is no such thing as a just war.

Just War Theory- war is justified but only under certain circumstances. (1) self-defense (2) To protect others (3) To spread democracy free oppressed people (4) To protect national/political/economic interests.

St. Augustine came up with the Just War Theory.

Animal Rights:
PRO: (1) It’s not medically necessary for health or survival to eat meat (2) meat causes health problems (3) Animal suffering in factory farms (4) Consumes vast resources to make meat –many times more than vegetables/nuts/grains.

CONS (1) Animals eat other animals. Eating animals is natural. (2) Animals can’t have rights because they can’t reason. They are not morally aware.

OBJECTION TO CON #1: naturalistic fallacy, just because it is natural does not make it good. EX: aggression, jealousy, promiscuity in men.
