Aristotle's Virtue Theory

Intellectual activity is necessary for success in addition to wealth, friends, health and non disfiguring looks. One must have all these in order to reason successfully.

Moderation and temperance keep your desires in check. In any situation you must find the balance between overdoing it and being deficient.

Criticisms of Aristotle.
1 Must what is good for a person be linked to what he does best.
Answer: What humans do best is be rational and they do this in many different ways.

2 Some things are hard to decribe as virtues or vices. Can you store away every moral vice in terms of excess or deficiency
Answer: Aristotle says that things like murder, lying and stealing are wrong and can not be done in any amount and virtue can not be done enough.

3 The robot analogy. say a robot is made just to punch holes but he develops into an intelligent being. Is it only virtueous if it continues to only punch holes?

4 Bourgeoise, ethnocentric. Aristotle believes his aristocratic philosopher life should be universally applied. He is parallel to mill in this respect.
