As the topic of god continually comes up, it has caused me to examine my own thoughts on the topic. It seems to me that god is nothing more than a reason to follow the rules laid out for you either by the Bible, the Torah, or any other book or teaching you choose to align yourself with. Further more, even if god were to exist I don't think that he would want us to worship him as we do. It seems unlikely to me that god would want us to build giant temples solely for us to worship him, and it seems even more unlikely that he would even want us to worship him. I think that god would want us to respect him not worship him, because respect is a feeling and worshiping is just an action. It kind of goes back to the old saying, "it is one thing to say it, it is another thing to do it" only this version would read "its one thing to do it, it is another to feel it." The respect I'm talking about would be born of our acknowledgement of his guidance, and great wisdom. If god were all knowing, that would make him very wise. Wise people who who share their knowledge, are teachers. That would make god a teacher. I think that god should be viewed more as a teacher and less as a god.
