Hey Mary, no problem :) It's a saying I've seen all over the place, on websites and bumperstickers even. For some reason I've always kept it in the back of my mind.
I also agree with the point that without some kind of faith in a higher power or any religious activity, it's difficult (but definitely not impossible) to keep up one's morals and respect. Back to my non-believing friends, many of them have had hard lives. One guy I dated a few years ago was extremely cynical, wanted nothing to do with religion, and when asked why, he claimed it was because when he was at his lows, he never got the help from God. Therefore, God must not exist.
On the other hand, I, too, have had some tough problems in life. The one thing that saved me from turning down a dangerous path was my belief in God. With a belief in a higher power, it's hard to adopt the mindset that you are alone in your troubles when you're really not. Now all of this isn't to say that all people who don't believe in God are unhappy, and that all people who do believe ARE happy. As we've seen in history (and more recently with the problems in the Catholic church), bad things have been done in the name of religion. But all I know is that having a little faith in a higher power can do wonders. It's so helpful to believe that you have a loving deity to turn your life over to, that you don't have to worry about everything in life, some things will work themselves out, and that you really are not alone.
