I have been pondering what to post about for this week... all week. I can not seem to stray to far from the thinking that we (or at least myself) are spinning our wheels trying to decide what "reality" really is.

Reality is so individual that I believe (my opinion obviously) that there is no true reality for everyone. Meaning, no one single reality that everyone shares. We have have thoughts and ideas that are so real and so obvious to us that we "think" everyone should have the same one. (Myself included.)

I asked a friend of mine this evening to try to name something that was "reality" for everyone. After a long and thoughtful pause and a brief discussion of how everyone might enjoy music (that was quickly dropped as a viable option to the question) the head began shaking along with the comment that there is nothing that everyone shares as the same reality.

Now some people might say (and I love it when people do this... heheheh) "we all need air to breathe". I say I love this because I love to play devil's advocate with this one... there is NO TRUE NEED IN LIFE. There are only 'wants'. There is way more to that statement than just that but this is not what this post is about... maybe another time we can get into this one.

We decided that we did not believe there was anything that everyone shared as reality.

That led to the comment that it was No big deal that one thing did not exist for everyone as reality as long as what people did have as their reality did not adversely affect anyone else in the process. Which loosely connects to selfishness (as opposed to selflessness) and how the world is full of these people (unfortunately).

So, the long and short (you got both) is that there is not 'standard reality' for everyone. Not even the air we chose to breathe.

I made a statement about not being as smart as I thought I was and my friend quickly retorted with "yes you are". Which I quickly dispelled using Socrates' life as good reason to not believe that one.

Besides, thinking you know more than you really do stops you from seeking out more knowledge. And, I am not done learning yet.

And I am also out of time for this week.
