One note of interest and this is just gaping assumption on my part, so correct me if I am wrong. You are dividing the mind/soul connection as if one can only be at a certain location at a time. Now going by that logic, let's look at the soul in Heaven-
1. It is timeless
2. It is immortal being
3. It is non-material i.e. non tangible.

Now let's look at the body on earth-

1. It is timeless
2. It is mortal being
3. It is material i.e. tangible.

That said, I am having a problem with the idea that somehow we can't "hang out" in both places at once. I think it's very possible that such a thing could happen. Why not? While God can snatch our soul away, it cannot do a single thing about the body in question. (of course there's always the dilemma of God denying a soul into the body for reanimation) This leads me to ponder why religion is in contrast with cryonics. All cryonics does, in essence, is duplicate Heaven. There is no awareness of time in either state of death, and the plus of having a body to slip into at some point seems pretty handy in the future, unlike Heaven where all you have is a soul. The only plus side of Heaven, is everything is perfect and here on earth, even after 100 years of suspension, it still wouldn't be Heaven by a long shot!
