Study Questions: What is a Near Death
Experience? Who coined the term and
when did research into this area begin?
What are some of the frequent features of
these experiences? How common are
these experiences in those who suffer
cardiac arrest? Do they happen only to
certain kinds of people or do they happen
to people of every culture and
background?

Questions for discussion: Do you think
these experiences are veridical? (A
veridical experience is the opposite of a
hallucinatory one, an experience which
accurately represents reality).

What are some of the theories which
attempt to explain away these
experiences scientifically? Could one
design an experiment which would serve
to confirm or disconfirm the hypothesis of
life after death based on this
phenomena?
