I must have too much time on my hands this weekend because I find myself pondering the cryonics topic again. I just have a hard time believing that it will really work. I’ve seen a person revived by CPR and I’ve seen lifesaving techniques fail. The body is a complicated process and unpredictable at best. Heart and Lung machines are not fail proof – in fact they can cause more complications than not. Imagine if you did die and immediately were cryonically preserved but the blood that is put back into your body is not yours and thus causes some type of infection/rejection process. It just seems to me that although this may work, most likely it will not. It sounds easy to cryonically preserve someone but the reviving part is what would fail. From a medical standpoint – there are so many complications that could happen. What about how long your brain goes without oxygen before the cryonics is done. Do you wake up with brain damage?

Ethically, I think the whole procedure is wrong. I may not be totally religious but I do believe that there is a circle of life that shouldn’t be messed with. I think there was a higher being (God) who created all of us. We have certain tasks, lessons, accomplishments to do in this lifetime. When we have accomplished those, God removes our physical body from this lifetime (i.e. we die). Who are we to decide not to die? If I died a natural death than to me that means that my soul accomplished what God meant it to. It is time for my soul to either move on to another lifetime or reside in Heaven to move on to another level of consciousness.

I have a hard time with cryonics but it definitely has given me something to think about.
