My interpretation is that we don't control having the feelings (having the thoughts). You chose your behavior, but all the thoughts were there-you had them without control. This takes me to the Ram Dass reading where he says "We see that we need not identify with each thought just because it happens to occur. We can remain quiet and choose which thought we wish to attend to."
