Think of drawOval as 'drawCircle'. On page 113 of the book where it shows you an oval in it's bounding rectangle, yes this appears as an oval as we traditionally think of one, but if you remember that a square is also a rectangle and think of that as your bounding box, you'll get what looks like a circle. To get the idea, you could just randomly come up with some number, like 10 or something, to represent the sides of a square, so 10 would be your length and height (thus your width and length), and then throw in whatever for x and y, and write an applet for that. Then when you run the applet you'll see that drawOval produced a circle.
