Lane students are encouraged to attend a Rally for Public Education to be held on the steps of the Oregon Capitol Building from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday 1/20 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day). Students, faculty, and administrators from all levels of public education will participate, but it is especially important for legislators and the public to see that large numbers of students are concerned about maintaining Oregon's educational programs. Students and other participants can come to Lane's northeast parking lot for a free ride by van or private vehicle, leaving between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and returning to Lane by 4:00 or 4:30. Alternatively, participants can drive themselves to Salem's Chemeketa Community College (green parking lot) from which free shuttle busses will run to the Capitol between 11:00 and 12:30. For further information, and to help us estimate the number of participants, interested students should contact Student Government organizers at their station in the cafeteria by Friday.
