Compatibilism, or soft determinism, agrees with determinism in that all actions have a cause. It also agrees with libertaruanism in that we have free will and therefore have moral responsibility. However, it redefines free will.

determinism = science = everything has a cause

libertarinism = morality = we are responsible for our own actions.

free will is redefined as being free from external compulsions.

Calvinism asks where is god's justice? it is similar to a compatibilist idea of freedom but leaves out moral responsibility.

Theism is the belief in God.
Atheism is the belief that God doesn't exist.
Agnosticism is not knowing if God exists.
everyone falls into one of these categories but some people are constantly changing their minds.

Three arguments for the existence of God.
1. Ontological
a priori argument that claims God exists by definition. If god's existence is possible it is actual. Descartes says God is a perfect being. existence is a perfection. therefore god must exist. further, as perfect being must possess all perfections, therefore god must possess all perfections.

2. cosmological argument
States that if every event has a cause, the universe must have a cause, and tht cause is god.

3. Teleological argument.
A.K.A design argument--says that the world is so perfectly ordered that it couldn't have come about randomly, therefore it must have had an intelligent creator, GOD.
