Ontological Arguments to the existence of God

Priori- based on reasoning, not examples or instances

St. Anselm-
Reductive argument- to reduce statement to absurdity to show contradiction in argument.
-Atheism leads to a contradiction, so theism must be true.

-Criticisms
"The greatest conceivable being exists only in the mind"- atheism is contradictory
-If god existed only in the mind, he wouldn't be the G.C.B.= god is G.C.B. by def= contradiction

Paradox of omnipotence- Can god create a stone so heavy that he can't lift it?
-if yes, then there's something that god can't do(lift stone)
-if no, then there's something he can't create
-God's omnipotence and human free will are contradictory.

God created evil on earth, so
-god can't stop evil therefore he is not all powerful
-god created evil therefore not well intentioned

Malcolm -If god's existence is possible, then it is actual.

argument-
Gaunilo "Using Anselm's argument, I can prove the greatest conceivable island exists, when it obviously doesn't"
-an argument that can "prove" anything proves nothing.
response-proving the greatest conceivable being is not the same as the greatest KIND of being.
