Compatibilism (soft-determinism): Mix of science and morality. Agrees with determinists that all actions are caused (by desires) and with Libratarianists that we are free and responsible for our actions.

Compatibilists redefine free will as doing what you want to do- free from external compulsion. In free acts, the cause of the act is the desire or reason belonging to the agent.

Arguments against Compatibilism:
1. Brainwashing/ Hypnosis
You would do something against your free will if it were suggested under influence in another state of mind.

Calvinism- Humans are born with sinful nature. We are fallen angles from Eden.
We are pre-destined to either go to heaven or hell and are pre-disposed to act as such.
Theism- The belief a God exists
Atheism- God doesnt exist
Agnosticism- Not knowing whether God exists

3 Theistic Arguments (independent of experience):
1. Ontological- God exists by definition.
If Gods existence is possible, then its actual. Decartes says "God is a perfect being and it is more perfect to exists than not to exists."
2. Cosmological-Belief in cosmos and cosmic energy is part of a higher power (God).
3. Teleological (Design Arg.)- Everything with design has a maker. Since everything seems to have purpose and function then there must be intelligence behind it.
