God + Life after death

2. Eventual union with Braham ("GOD")
-ego is an illusion
-Braham is ultimate reality
*Problems with this belief
-Souls jump from body to body (Recycled) with our population increase where did new souls come from?
Answer from class: There could be a vault of unembodied souls living timelessly.
-Does it preserve psychological continuity (Personal identity)?
Answer from class: memories are there but represses for logical reasons

Materialist Rationalization: Matter can neither be created nor destroyed. I am made of matter therefore I can not be destroyed in death.
>Why does the same spiritual substance preserve personality /identity any more than the same physical substance?
Answer: Assuming physical doesn't carry memory & character with it.

>In Hinduism the individual person (ego) isn't ultimately real or important to begin with-its part of Brahman

>Either the self isn't real to begin with of it will one day be absorbed in Brahman (Like a drop of rain merging with the ocean)

>If it doesn't preserve your consciousness its not immortality

If one extinguishes desire at death one goes to Nirvana-a realm of desireless bliss
>Believed in Reincarnation with out believing in souls(more like the recycling of energy)
