-Three people takes notes each class and then post them on the webboard by next class period.
-Error in syllabus: only take notes one class period per person.
-Post notes in understandable form.
-Religious Service: experience a new religion(Islam, Judaism, or Christianity. If you are Episcopalian don't go to a Catholic church try to reach out. Ask the professor if you have questions about locations and welcoming places of worship.
-Discussion questions are not graded but are highly recommended for your benefit.
-Cross out discussion questions 1-8in the Exodus section of the Reading and Discussion.
-Exams are taken on computers.
-Since the final will be taken on a computer the last class will optional but there will be extra credit for coming.
-It is your responsibility to read and understand the syllabus.
-The professor's religion will be disclosed on the final exam.
-The class used to be taught with Houston Smith's, World's Religions but it only gave a positive perspective.
-Hermeutical means not putting you own biases into something you read.
-Mainly a scholarly approach will be used towards religion in this class with the occasional philosophical debate.
-No packet required for the class only the Koran and the Bible, plus handouts.
-If you cannot make it to the night class you may make them up in the day classes.

Differences of Eastern and western religions.
Eastern Religions:
-Hinduism,Bhuddism,Taoism, and Shintuism.
-Emphasis on meditation.
-Not explainable in natural term."Ineffable"
-Pantheistic:believes all is God and God is all.
-God is in everything.
-Reincarnation
-Kharma:What goes around comes around.
-History is cyclical and goes in cycles.
-Nature is sacred.
Western Religions:
-Judaism, Christianity, Islam
-Emphasis on prayer
-God is revealed and explained in scripture.
-Monotheistic: believes in one god.
-God created the world but is not apart of the world.
-Judgement: Either Heaven or Hell.
-History is linear ending in the apocalypse.
-Nature is a resource.

Judaism
-YHWH(Yahweh)gods personal name is too sacred to be spoken so in substitution of Yahweh, Atonal is put in place which means Lord.
-The reasoning is that the 3rd commandment states not to use the lords name in a frivolous manor.Zealous Jews took that to mean never say it.
The Hebrew Bible is made up of three parts.
1)Torah(Law)-1st five books of the bible.
2)Prophets- 5 major and 12 minor, a set of guidelines.
3)Writings- poetry and other works.
