The teacher started out by talking about the faith interview or the church visit. question: the difference of churches and religious beliefs.

Liturgical church: they have and order of worship, set prayers, ritual readings or conversation,priest wear clerical vestments in attendance.
Some set reading for Ex: old testament, Letters,The gospel of Paul.

Non Liturgical: regular Christians religion, no set prayers,spontaneous prayer, little reading, no clerical vestments(ornamentation) casual clothes Ex: Pentecostals, Quaker( no priest).
this should show the difference in the development Judaism.

Liturgy- Means the order of worship, set prayers,ritual readings.

Subject: Leviticus:16 Yom Kippur Ritual.
For Jews it the most important day(the most holy day)it's a day of atonement.

Animal sacrifices pay for all sins!
End of the year celebration!

1)The High Priest has to be sacrificially pure before he continues with any other sacrifices this is done by the killing of a bull.
2)Then you have a sacrificial goat killed for everybody by the high priest(in general).
3)Then, (Azazel),thus the term Scapegoat is formed. The high priest then transfers all of the leftover sins that people still haven't made atonement for to the goat and it's driven out of town in hopes that the sins will go with it.

These kind of sacrifices had to be done inside the temple, but the temple was destroyed about the time of the coming of Jesus. The ritual is still celebrated but without the sacrifices(no temple). Today it's a somber refection (maybe a new years resolution to do better within oneself). The ritual comes ten days before Rosh Hashana.

1)You shall have no other gods before me
2)No Idols
3)Don't take gods name in vain(YAHWEH)
4)Observation of the Sabbath(Saturday)
5)Honor thy mother and thy father
6)You shall not murder(premeditation)capital punishment(stoned to death)
7)You shall not commit adultery
8)You shall not steal
9)You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor( not lieing in general but pertaining to legal matters
10)You shall not covet(internal feelings of lust,strong desire)

The first four commandments deal with god(anthropomorphic)human like behavior.
The last six deal in human to human relationship.

Theocracy: Ruled by god
