Continued-Five Pillars of Islam-
#4-Sawm/Ramadan-month of fasting (from sun- up to sun-down no eating, drinking or smoking) If you have a medical problem, under the age 12 or nursing there are exceptions.
#5-Hajj:pilgramidge to Mecca once in a life time. Typically the man of the house goes. While their Muslims will run around the city 7 times, run between two pillars, and throw pebbles at a statue of satan.

Shariah-Islamic Law, both religious and political.

All five pillars can be found in Pre-Islamic religion
-Name Allah
-Prayer five times a day towards Mecca
-Zakat:charity (not the 2.5% of net worth annually)
-Ramadan
-Making a pilgramidge to Mecca

Muhammad's Successors
-2 basic sects of Islam-
-Sunnis(Sunna-tradition)-followed Abu Bakr. Abu was respected more than Ali. Beliefs are based on written tradition. They make up at least 85% of Muslims.
-Shi'ites:means follower of Ali. They followed Ali who was Muhammad's cousin. Some thought he should be the successor because he was Muhammad's blood relative. Beliefs based on clerical interpretation guided from Heaven.Make up 10% of Muslims
Iran is 90% Shi'ite
Both sects accept Shariah
-Sufis are the mystical branch of Islam. Make up about 5% of Muslims.
