-attitude toward women
-positive: gave 1/2 property rights compared to men, 1/2 standing in court, outlawed female infanticide (killing female infants).
-negative: ok to have more than one wife, no more than four, and you have to take care of them... not too negative, but that depends on who you ask. divorce was permitted -man just had to say "I divorce you" three times in a row.
Muhammad said that no one is more deficient in intelligence or religion than a woman. women don't have religion-too stupid, ignorant, etc. Paradise to him was a giant pearl with women chained to walls ready to have sex with any male that came along. Men have total control over women. If a man's wife disobeyed him he could banish her to the bedroom or beat her, severely. Women must wear burkas, garments that go from head to toe with a sort of netting across their face. Some women prefer these, women raised to believe that they are inferior to men.

Suras given during seizure visions written down by followers when they were recited back to them afterward. Muhammad himself was illiterate. One man who wrote down these recitations may have altered the visions thereby trading God's word for his own. Suras collected after Muhammads death and compiled by the Caliph Uthman. Competing versions were burned. Uthman titled suras. no, or little organization of or within books.
