Pentacost: Greek name for a Jewish festival (Shavuot - "festival of weeks," AKA Wheat Harvest Lev 23). Takes place 50 days after passover. The priest would make a waved offering-i.e. loaves of bread on an alter and thank God. Pentacost is a Christian name for the celebration of the coming of the holy spirit.

-Gift of language(tongues)-Ability to speak in foreign languages to reach their multilingual audience.

Modern Pentacostal Services: People speaking in "ecstatic utterances," sometimes called "Prayer Language." Modern Pentacostal services will speak in tongues all at once- exactly what the Apostle Paul said no tto do because: "Everyone who's thinking about becoming a Christian will think the service is too crazy, and leave."

-Jesus appears to paul in a blinding light. Paul goes from a fanatic persecutor of Christianity to a fanatic Evangelist for Christianty. He was a huge leader in the early church. Paul didn't know the earthly Jesus, he only knew the Heavenly Jesus, thought accepted by the other Apostles - approved by Luke (wrote both the Gospels and Acts). He was key in the Jewish element of Christianity dropping out.

-Peter gets a vision of an unclean feast. In showed him the need to welcome Gentiles (non jews) into the church, evangelize them.

-Counsel at Jersulem: First council, asked and discussed which parts of the Jewish laws do new gentile converts have to keep? This question came up because so much of the Jewish culture was still being practiced.
