For Friday read Matthew Chpts. 5-7,sermon on the mount.
-In Mark Jesus lifts kosher laws.
--Jesus--
-preaches against religious hipocracy, particularly against the Pharisees, and the Sadducees.
-puts emphasis the moral over the ceremonial law
-attitudes are more important then outward observance.
--Parable;cryptic saying,metaphor,or allegory used to express spiritual truth.
-Example of a saying; What goes into you doesn't make you unclean it's what comes out of you.
-Example of a metaphor;The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed.
-Example of allegory-story which has 1 to 1 correspondence. Story of the vineyard,parable of the sower.(Sower Jesus,Seed-the word,Path-hard hearted people,Rocky ground-shallow people,Weeds+thorns-people preoccupied with worldly goods,Fertile soil-soft hearted open people who become Jesus's followers.)
--Parables--
-reason for story to keep outsiders and enemies in the dark.
-reason Jesus speaks in parables, to put off execution, and not throwing pearls before swine(people that are just near Jesus for the show will not get the message and leave, but those who are soft hearted will follow him to receive the message behind the parable)
-to convey truth to soft hearted people, doesn't want hard hearted people to hear message.
-Mark 12-parable of the vineyard, insulting parable intended for enemies to get.
--Jesus on wealth--
-Harder for a rich man to get into heaven then for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.
-Instructors translation-it would be a miracle in any rich person got into heaven.
