I agree with Deb, in our new readings it is obvious that Descartes' is scared of getting killed. The social climate of his time was far to controlled by the church for him to be able to openly express his doubts in religion. The people that spoke against the theory of God and the Bible in his time were murdered because religion was used as a tool to control people and give priest and the King, who was chosen by "diving right," power.
