I've always liked reading philosophy books, so Descartes has not been too unusual for me, but his sentences are long, and he does sound more like a telephone call. I've found that printing it, writing in the margins, and re-reading are very helpful, but i also read it one paragraph at a time. i don't move on to the next paragraph until i feel i can understand the one i just read, even if it means reading it five or six times over, slowly.
